Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, provides academic services and conducts research to promote mental health and prevent mental health problems of people, their families and communities as well as continuously intervene and rehabilitate patients with psychiatric problems and their families. It uses theories of human behavior as its scientific framework and requires the use of the self as its art or expression in nursing practice.
The department, under an experienced and dedicated faculty, renders quality education to undergraduate and post graduate students, assisting them in developing expertise and an in-depth understanding of the field. It helps students appreciate clients as individuals and develop skills to function as psychiatric nurses, enabling them to function as educator, manager and researcher in the field of psychiatric nursing.
The Department is also committed to provide opportunities for professional growth, including a fully individualised orientation, support for participation in professional development activities and various in-service programs for the faculty.
World Schizophrenia Day
P.D Bharatesh College of Nursing, Halaga, Belagavi, Department of Mental Health Nursing has organized Rally and health awareness programme on the occasion of World Schizophrenia Day on 24th May 2025 at Tariyal, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Sangeeta A Moreshwar, Principal, P.D Bharatesh College of Nursing, Halaga, Belagavi. The health education was given by Mrs. Priyanka N, Assistant Professor, P.D Bharatesh College of Nursing, Halaga, Belagavi on meaning, about Schizophrenia to the common population and the impact of that on regular life. Around 50 community population were benefited by this programme.

P.D Bharatesh College of Nursing, Halaga, Belagavi, Department of Mental Health Nursing has organized psychodrama and health awareness programme on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September 2024 at Yellur, under the guidance of Prof.Dr. Sangeeta A Moreshwar, Principal, P.D Bharatesh College of Nursing, Halaga, Belagavi.
World Suicide Prevention Day is an internationally recognized day on 10th September every year, encouraging taking measures to raise awareness about people with Suicide. Suicide is a major public health challenge, with more than 70000 deaths each year globally. Each suicide far reaching social, emotional, and economic consequences and deeply affects individuals and communities worldwide. The triennial theme of World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September 2024 is “Changing the narrative on Suicide” with the call to action “Start the Conversation”. This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent Suicide. It is an opportunity for people and communities to unite behind the theme celebrating the “Changing the narrative on Suicide” to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health as a universal human right.
